SENSES Center
Founded in 2004, Senses Residential and Day Care for Special Needs (Senses) is a non-profit charitable organization based in Dubai, UAE and the first residential care facility in the Middle East, dedicated to improving the quality of life of people of determination (special needs) and orphans and abandoned children with special needs. Maintaining international standards, the Center provides intervention programs using a holistic approach for children with special needs. The center provides 24/7 care for children with unique needs that require special therapies, offering them rehabilitative and educational programs, as well as a nurturing environment where they can develop new skills and improve their abilities. Through specialized programs that combine speech and music therapy, art, daily living skills, sports, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sensory integration therapy children from the age of two to nineteen with mild to severe physical disabilities, autism, Down syndrome can receive the highest level of efficient and quality care they need in a safe surrounding. These therapies and professional programs provide the children with the development and skills they need, resulting in them obtaining jobs and a social life. In 2010, with the generous personal contribution from H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the purpose-built day care center and residential care facility was gifted to the organization. Currently, 140 children with various special needs are enrolled at Senses from which over 115 children are living in our residential care facility to receive 24/7 nursing care and medical attention from our team of experts and caregivers. Senses also been a pioneer in spreading awareness about various disorders in the region and has conducted successful annual campaigns tackling various issues. The campaigns were able to reach the whole region thanks to the support received from local and regional media. The impact of these campaigns can be measured by the increased numbers of parents seeking advice and the number of organizations that sprouted during the last couple of years. As the awareness of this incredible center grows, so increases the number of children and, in turn, the costs incurred to run the organization. As a non-profit organization, we rely on corporate organizations and philanthropists to support us in reaching our goals to serve people of determination.
